Rajasthan is unequalled in the world for its heritage, culture, safaris, sand dunes and lush green forests with its wildlife. The main geographic features of Rajasthan are the Thar Desert and the Aravalli Range, which runs through the state from southwest to northeast, almost from one end to the other, for more than 850 km. Mount Abu is at the southwestern end of the range, separated from the main ranges by the West Banas River, although a series of broken ridges continues into Haryana in the direction of Delhi where it can be seen as outcrops in the form of the Raisina Hill and the ridges farther north. About three-fifths of Rajasthan lies northwest of the Aravallis, leaving two-fifths on the east and south.The northwestern portion of Rajasthan is generally sandy and dry. Most of the region is covered by the Thar Desert, which extends into adjoining portions of Pakistan. The Aravalli Range intercepts the moisture-giving southwest monsoon winds off the Arabian Sea, leaving the northwestern region in a rain shadow. The Thar Desert is thinly populated; the town of Bikaner is the largest city in the desert. The Northwestern thorn scrub forests lie in a band around the Thar Desert, between the desert and the Aravallis. This region receives less than 400 mm of rain in an average year. Summer temperatures can exceed 45°C in the summer months and drop below freezing in the winter. The Godwar, Marwar, and Shekhawati regions lie in the thorn scrub forest zone, along with the city of Jodhpur. The Luni River and its tributaries are the major river system of Godwar and Marwar regions, draining the western slopes of the Aravallis and emptying southwest into the great Rann of Kutch wetland in neighboring Gujarat. This river is saline in the lower reaches and remains potable only up to Balotara in Barmer district. The Ghaggar River, which originates in Haryana, is an intermittent stream that disappears into the sands of the Thar Desert in the northern corner of the state and is seen as a remnant of the primitive Saraswati river.Once known as the 'Land of the Kings', the state still retains the glory and richness of those times with its marvelous monuments, colourful traditions and customs. It covers most of the area of the Great Indian desert (Thar Desert) with one edge paralleling the Sutlej - Indus river valley along with its border with Pakistan.The Aravalli Range adds diversity to the landscape of Rajasthan.The Aravalli Range and the lands to the east and southeast of the range are generally more fertile and better watered.

Rajasthan is a better known dry place world wide. This region is home to the Kathiarbar-Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion, with tropical dry broadleaf forests that include teak, Acacia, and other trees. The hilly Vagad region lies in southernmost Rajasthan, on the border with Gujarat. With the exception of Mount Abu, Vagad is the wettest region in Rajasthan, and the most heavily forested. North of Vagad lies the Mewar region, home to the cities of Udaipur and Chittaurgarh. The Hadoti region lies to the southeast, on the border with Madhya Pradesh. North of Hadoti and Mewar is the Dhundhar region, home to the state capital of Jaipur. Mewat, the easternmost region of Rajasthan, borders Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Eastern and southeastern Rajasthan is drained by the Banas and Chambal rivers, tributaries of the Ganges.
The Aravali Range runs across the state from the southwest peak Guru Shikhar (Mount Abu), which is 1,722 m in height, to Khetri in the northeast. This divides the state into 60% in the northwest of the range and 40% in the southeast. The northwest tract is sandy and unproductive with little water but improves gradually from desert land in the far west and northwest to comparatively fertile and habitable land towards the east. The area includes the Thar Desert. The south-eastern area, higher in elevation (100 to 350 m above sea level) and more fertile, has a very diversified topography. in the south lies the hilly tract of Mewar. In the southeast, a large area within the districts of Kota and Bundi forms a tableland. To the northeast of these districts is a rugged region (badlands) following the line of the Chambal River. Farther north the country levels out; the flat plains of the northeastern Bharatpur district are part of an alluvial basin.

Hyderabad Airport

The Hyderabad Airport at Begumpet since 1930 is well-linked to other cities in India and to international destinations including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, especially Singapore and Malaysia, and most recently to Chicago. A new International Airport is being constructed in the outskirts of the city, and once complete, it will take over from the exisitng Airprot. The Begumpet airport now suffers from overcrowding, this has led to major problems, especially in the domestic terminal, and conditions are cramped, unattractive, and sometimes unsanitary.To meet growing population needs new airport is started building off Shamshabad, which lies on the outskirts of the city. Losar Festival

The Losar Festival is the beginning of the New Year according to the Monpa calendar. This 15 day festival falls in January/February. The highlights of the festival are the colouful Aji Lhamu dance, Lion and Peacock dance and the Yak dance, the festival is marked by prayers, hoisting of religious flags atop the homes, reading of Buddhist scriptures, and lighting butter lamps in the houses

Reh festival
this festival is mainly associated with the Idu Mishimis. The special attraction of the six-day celebrations is the priest dance.

Tamladu festival

Tamladu, the Digaru Mishimis offer prayers to the God of the Earth and the God of the Water. It is essentially celebrated by the Digaru Mishis tribe. During the festival, prayers are offered to the god of the earth and the god of the waters for protection against natural calamities. The supreme - Lord Jebmalu, is worshipped for the prosperity and welfare of human being, the standing crops and domestic animals.

Khan festival

Khan is significant because of a ceremony where the priest ties a piece of wool around everybody's neck, khan festival, an occasion for the reunion of the people. Besides the usual festivities, the significance of the festival lies in the ceremony whereby the priest ties a piece of wool around everybody's neck. The belief is that the enchanted thread will bring good luck to each of them.

Mopin festival

Smearing of rice powder on each others faces marks the beginning of the festival which is celebrated for five days for the prosperity and happiness of the people.

The Sanken festival

It is an occasion to bathe the images of Lord Buddha ceremoniously. People sprinkle water on each other as a sign of merriment, while smearing of rice powder on each other's face marks the beginning of the five-day celebrations of Mopin.

The railway station nearest to the hill resort of Itanagar is North Lakhimpur in the state of Assam. It is at a distance of 60 km from Itanagar At a distance of 10 km from Itanagar is the Naharlagun bus station. The excellent road network links Naharlagun with other important places like Guwahati, Shillong, Ziro, North Lakhimpur and Bomdila. You may board the buses run by the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport from Naharlagun.

Buddhist temple

It is beautiful yellow roofed shrine reflects the extensive Tibetan influence and provides good views of Itanagar and the surrounding countryside. It rises from wefi-rnaintained grounds behind a stupo tree planted by His Holiness The Dalai Lama. The grounds of the temple afford a good view of Itanagar Town.

Ganga Lake (Gyakar Sinyi)

It is a beautiful picnic spot, 6 kms away from Itanagar, a green forest lake surrounded by primeval vegetation, orchids masses on tall trees, tree ferns provides a small taste of the magnificent forests of the state. It takes visitors on a rugged road through some superbly primeval jungles, Bamboo groves, orchids massed on tall trees are some of the vegetation which can be identified by the interested travelers. Stopping at the base of a hill, one has to take a flight of steps uphill. At the top of the ridge one looks down on a serene green forest lake which one has to cross in a row boat. Today, it is a beautiful spot for outings, boating and picnics.

The State Museum

In the gallery at the ground floor, the political and administrative development of the area, population of the various tribal groups as per 1991 census (provisional), sociocultural heritage of the people and their lifestyle have been depicted, with the help of maps and Dioramas. While the fife-styles of all the major tribes have been depicted, the display maps cover a wide range of subjects such as the people, house types, festivals, dances, handicrafts, textile designs, musical instruments, weapons of war and chase, important developments, Malinithan, Itafort, Noksaparbat, Kundil valley civilization and historical sites.

Polo Park

It is an interesting little botanical garden atop a ridge overlooking the town. Visitors should notice the cane thicket, it looks a bit like a palm with spines on its stems, but grows as a bush. There is a small zoo. Actual specimens of arts and crafts particularly wood carving objects, musical instruments, headgears, religious paraphernalia etc. have been displayed in show cases. Thus the ground floor gallery gives a panoramic view of Arunachal Pradesh. The gallery on the upper floor has six sections-textiles, archaeology, ornaments, basketry, weapons and household articles. Actual specimens from among the different tribes of Arunachal Pradesh are on display under different sections. The Archaeology Section has been arranged to give some idea about the heritage of the state, found at excavated sites of Malinithan, Itafort, Noksaparbat, Bhismaknagar have been exhibited.

Itanagar is the capital of the Arunachal Pradesh.The township is situated at 350 metres above mean sea level. No railway enters Arunachal.
